Guest Student Editor, Karly H!
This is my final year at Spectrum. I have been coming for five years and the final day is always my favorite. The hustle and bustle of the majors working to wow the audience is exciting! Dance, drama, and music students are perfecting their pieces in the auditorium, while the visual artists and writers (aka. the greatest group) are putting their final touches on their projects. They are being featured in the gallery crawl where people walk around and look at our amazing work that we put a ton of effort into. This is very important to me and my peers. This year we set up in the cafeteria. We were each assigned a table to set up our work. Later, the Finale will take place. This is my last one. I'm sad, but singing and dancing was never really my forte. Ask Ms. Fergusson! :) I will always cherish the wonderful memories I had here at Spectrum and I hope to return as an intern next year! . Today's student blog features Mitchell!
Hi! I’m Mitchell King and this is my third year at Spectrum. Each and every year, the projects get better and better. Today, I was able to finish up my Movie poster project, one where we were told to write a story based off of a scary movie. Mine was based off the movie “Pigs”, directed by Marc Lawrence. Other possible movie poster options were “The Colossal Man”, “The Attack of the Crab Monsters”, and “The Cars that Eat People”. My particular story was written in a script format, simulating the actual script for the horror film. After lunch, we also went into the auditorium in order to rehearse for the finale at the showcase on Thursday. The song is a parody of Michael Jackson’s hit “Thriller”, where we do original dances and raps from the movie itself. On one particular part, we all get in a scrum, divided up in our majors, and chosen people perform the rap that Vincent Prince did in Thriller. We all hope that you are able to come and enjoy the show! Calling all Parents and Participants!
We are excited to share documentation of all the wonderful work happening at the 2018 Spectrum of the Arts! If you would like to follow us on Instagram follow us using the handle below. Stay tuned for more wonderful images and clips from our days together. Instagram: @spectrumofthearts This is my first year here. Spectrum of the Arts Summer Camp is so engaging. I’m a Creative Writing major. We’ve working on poems that have a ton of mayhem in them, myths that we’ve modernized, and stories to go along with movie advertisements. So far, our minors are awesome, too. We’re learning a spectrum version of Thriller in music. There’s always a fun activity to do no matter what classroom you’re in. I love the projects and I totally want to come back again next year.
-- Alex Hi everyone! This year, students are writing our blog posts to keep you informed about our Creative Writing projects! First up is guest editor, Katie! Spectrum Day 3!
Today I finished my Modern Mythology project (I think it’s my favorite Creative Writing, so far!). Mine was the myth of Arachne, when she got turned into a spider. I made it like a radio news show and got to record it. I was the main reporter, then there was Arachne, Athena, and the meteorologist, who were played by different people. I think we did a great job, and I can’t wait to hear it in the show at the end! I think my work is much better than it was last year. On Monday we made rhyming poems inspired by Roald Dahl’s “Revolting Rhymes”. In Visual Arts we made pinch-pot monsters out of clay. My monster has one eye, and will have a leafy mane around his neck. He’s sitting down and has two legs. He turned out better than I thought he would. I’m excited to finish building him! |
